Natalie Yaa Obenewa ThompsonFounder of Bespoke BinnyBio They say ‘home is where the heart is’, and for many, having a peaceful home environment is essential in maintaining mental clarity. One such person who has quite literally taken this ethos to heart is young entrepreneur Natalie Yaa Obenewa Thompson. As a qualified CBT Therapist, Natalie recognises the implications of being a product of one’s environment and so has launched Bespoke Binny, an eclectic, African-inspired home furnishings brand that encompasses inspirational quotes taken from African proverbs.Born in North London of Ghanaian descent, Natalie was raised by a single mother who worked long hours on a small salary to provide the best experiences possible for her family. The foundations of humble beginnings, self-belief and the significant value of education instilled a strong work ethic in young Natalie. Following university where she obtained her degree in Psychology. Natalie trained as Cognitive Behavioral Treatment (CBT) Therapist helping people to cope with mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. Natalie was deeply affected when her mother, whom she has a very close relationship with, was a diagnosed with a number of life threatening health conditions including breast cancer. Natalie’s mother recovered from the cancer, but was then diagnosed with a rare liver condition called Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, for which she underwent a Liver transplant in November 2013, and is still recovering. Her mother having worked so hard to give Natalie the best during her childhood, Natalie is determined to be as successful as possible so as to be in a position to provide all she can to support her and alleviate any pressures faced by trying to maintain a quality of life.Motivated by both her personal and work situation, Natalie has embarked on a business that sets out to address the void and lack of support that many feel in everyday life. Inspired by her background, Natalie has created Bespoke Binny, an eclectic range of home furnishings that not only add beauty and style to the home, but also uplift and energize with positivity. As a natural extension from her career as a therapist, Bespoke Binny combines Natalie’s love of handcraft and sewing offering brightly coloured African wax print home furnishings, including a range of cushions, kitchen & dining ware and lampshades. Drawing on the culture of her heritage, Bespoke Binny’s range of ‘Nyansa’ (meaning 'wisdom' or ‘wise’) cushions provide inspiring African proverbs such as; ‘If you think you are too small to make a difference you haven’t spent the night with a mosquito’, designed to encourage and uplift the owner.Far from your average home furnishings brand, Bespoke Binny has a wider purpose other than to add a sense of unique cultural style to your home, each item provides positive energy with creativity, culture and colour.
