The Kat & Monocle
The Kat & Monocle is an independent business, based in Hackney, providing printed design concepts for Fashion, Home and Giftware. It was set up by Katrina Wight, a textile designer from North Yorkshire, with the aim of offering ‘fine, honest goods that make people smile’. Inspired by her background as a vet’s daughter, she creates intricate, hand drawings of ‘gentrified’ pets, which are bursting with character and eccentric charm. These illustrations, often combined with pattern, are applied to dinnerware, stationery, t-shirts, and shopping bags and are truly British in style. Katrina also offers freelance or commissioned work, such as wedding invitations and pet portraits and is continually expanding her range. She has worked with clients such as the US wallpaper company, Studio Printworks and Hackney Council and her cards featured in Elle Decoration’s ‘Name to Watch’ article in October 2013. She will soon be launching her new website, www.thekatandmonocle.com, and she also sells her products every Saturday at Broadway Market, London Fields.
